Speculoos

In deed this is a sugary country. There is this paste or spread called Speculoos/Speculaas made here and in Netherlands, the consistency is simillar to peanut butter. The Speculoos spread is kind of a melted Speculoos cockies which you have on your breakfast bread. The cookie is seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom and white pepper, tastes almost like bondkaka. The story of how the spread was invented is quite interesting and we can all learn something from it (you take what you have).

It's said that there was a mother who ran out of sprinkels for the lunch sandwishes she were making for her children. The panic came over her, I mean how is the children going to survive an entire schoolday without sweets?
And the only thing she had in store was some old speculoos cokies so she put them in between the sandwishes. Clever thinking mummy, the kids went crazy from the new taste sensation and from then on it was the only thing they wanted for lunch.
And the tradition spread all over Belgium and even to Netherlands. Only negative part of this was all the crumles everywhere. The housemaids, cleaningladies and housewifes almost became worn out. Til the solution came- melted cookies!

And this my friends might be the most delicious thing ever, and we really need to import this delicacy to Sweden, forget all about Belgian chocolate, waffels and french fries- This is the shit!
